ENDOWMENT PROVIDES GIVING PATHWAY FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Local Olympia resident Erin Chase has started an endowment fund in honor of her father that will protect and secure Quixote Communities' future for years to come.

​The James Andrew Adams Quixote Communities Fund has been set up with The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound. Erin Chase has made an incredible initial gift to the fund of $53,804. The fund is named in honor of her father, who spent many years homeless and on the streets and in and out of touch with Erin.

“My father was a hard-working teacher when I was a child,” Erin explains. “I watched him earn a Master’s in Environmental and Chemical Engineering. He taught me to be kind to all people and treated everyone with humanity. When I was ten, my dad succumbed to mental illness. For the majority of my life he was a homeless alcoholic.”

Erin’s father, a skilled carpenter, died in Savannah, Georgia, rehabbing an old mansion that he hoped to turn into a youth hostel. He had made great progress, not just with the dilapidated house he was working on but with his own life.

Erin is committed to making a real difference in the world by helping us establish this endowment: “When I was a child I have memories of driving by homeless people. The individuals often looked defeated, weathered by the elements, and without basic needs met. The people in the car with me would often turn their heads, pretending that they did not see them. The anger and sadness that I felt in these moments, was very inspiring to me. I believe that all people deserve homes, food, and love. I promised myself that I would do whatever I could, to create a world in which all people have basic needs met.”
